Shaun Thomas
Coventry Sphinx joint manager Shaun Thomas has decided to step down from his position in order to spend more time with his family.
Shaun is a much loved friend of everyone at the club and has a special place in our history as a former player and, with John Woodward, as one of the managers who took Sphinx into Step Four football for the first time.
John and Shaun managed the team to a third successive season at our highest ever level in the English football pyramid.
John Woodward will continue as our first team manager.
We would like to place on record our immense gratitude and respect for everything Shaun has done since rejoining the club as an assistant manager to Lee Knibbs. This has been a historic era for our club and Shaun’s contribution to it has been immeasurable.
“Coventry Sphinx is the best club in the world,” said Shaun.
“With a heavy heart, I made the decision to step away after the final league game of the season. The decision was not an easy one. I have loved every minute since returning to the club seven and a bit years ago.
“I returned as assistant manager when my daughter was six weeks old. I was in a brace following ACL surgery and winged my first training session.
“My daughter will be eight in October and that time has gone in the blink of an eye. Now is the time to spend some quality time with her, where football isn’t restrictive to plans.
“I think we’ve done alright. After two disrupted covid seasons, the club has risen from the bottom of Step Five to finishing fourth, then champions. Memories I will never forget.”
We wish Shaun and his family the very best for the future.
