Youth Team lose opener
by Kev Monks
Coventry Sphinx 1 v 4 Redditch United
Coventry Sphinx Youth were beaten
4-1 at home by Redditch United in their opening Midland Floodlit
Youth League Premier Division game of the new season.
Nigel Starkey's side played well for the opening thirty minutes,
hitting the post through Adam Robertson after eighteen minutes
and causing the visiting defence a number of problems.
Redditch started to get back into the game and were ahead in the
35th minute when Ashley Bunn scored from a corner.
Seven minutes later, Andy Reid added a second for the visitors
working his way into the area from the right to thump the ball
into the net.
Two goals became three, three minutes into the second half when
a stunning Dan Carter strike which flew into the net from the
edge of the area.
Sphinx stuck to their guns and pulled one back with an equally
as good goal on 58 minutes from Brad Taylor, watched by his
brother Connor who joined Aston Villa from Sphinx in a two year
deal. Taylor hit a left footed strike from twenty yards which
gave the keeper no chance.
In the 66th minute, Redditch went up the other end and Dan
Carter dinked the ball over Tom Bryce to complete the scoring.
