Sorry Sphinx lose at Causeway
by Kev Monks
Causeway United 3 v 0 Coventry Sphinx
Causeway United are famous for their cakes at half-time and this
was the only joy for those who got to partake in the delights of
a blueberry and lemon cake as Coventry Sphinx went down to a 3-0
defeat.
Sphinx, started well enough with an enterprising cross from Tom
Muldoon in the third minute going not far wide before a great
Cudworth layoff gave Robbie Stevenson a shot from twenty yards
which went wide.
Stevenson wasted a great free kick in the 24th minute and Sphinx
were made to pay a minute later as James Cooper cross from the
left was palmed away by Daffern for Adam Overton to score from
eight yards.
In the 29th minute, the same thing happened again with Stevenson
wasting another free kick and Causeway going up the other end
and winning a free kick which was headed deep into the far
corner of the net by Matt Aston.
As the heads of the Sphinx players unusually dropped, Danny
McSheffrey and Lee Knibbs made a double change at the break but
all they could do was watch on as Causeway were awarded a 57th
minute penalty after a foul in the opinion of the referee
conceded by substitute Chris Long. Arron Lloyd converted the
spot kick and it was game over for Sphinx who travel to Boldmere
St Michaels on Tuesday night.
