Loughborough & Kings

In a
much improved performance Coventry Sphinx went nap against Christ
The King with a five goal display at Sphinx Drive.
Danny McSheffrey's side had 80% of play for the majority of the game
as there fitness levels were to much for the Coventry Alliance side,
who fielded three ex Sphinx players in Mark Owen, Scott McGregor and
Jez Carpenter.
Sphinx produced five corners and had four shots on goal before they
took the lead in the 37th minute thanks to a stunning Aaron
Donaldson curling drive that gave the keeper Jack Weir no chance
with his powerfully hit shot.
It was the second half where Sphinx really took the game to the
visitors. In the 52nd minute, they doubled their tally thanks to
Kyle Rhodes poking home from a Donaldson corner.
Pavel Tomczak attacked again for Sphinx a minute later but saw his
low drive strike the keeper's left hand post. However in the 59th
minute, the Pole was not to be denied when Danny Fraser picked him
out and he was able to coolly round Weir to walk the ball into an
empty net.
Tomczak was now causing havoc in the Kings defence with his strength
and direct play. He had one shot pushed onto the post by the keeper
and in the 66th minute, he rose to head home a beautifully flighted
free kick from the impressive Liam Kay who was filling in at right
back .
Pav Tomczak Heads In his 2nd....
Tomczak had scored twice against Kenilworth Town on Tuesday night
but tonight, he was to go one better when Nicky Martin slipped the
ball and he rounded a defender and again rounded the keeper to make
it 5-0.
Danny Fraser who had a fine game, along with a good number of his
team-mates, struck the post with five minutes to go of what was a
good team performance from Sphinx. The task gets harder on Saturday
when they entertain Evostik North opponents Loughborough Dynamoe
with a 3pm kick off.
Sphinx 0 Loughborough Dynamoe 1
Sphinx went down by the solitary goal against Evostik North Loughborough Dynamoe. Sphinx will consider themselves unlucky after having 2 goals disallowed and missing a sitter from 5 yards out.
Both teams were combinative and it was Sphinx who thought they had scored first when Ashley Jackson converted Aaron Donaldson's cross come shot be he was deemed to be in an offside position. As always happens within a minute Dynamoe were ahead after good work down the right converted on the volley by the number 9.
Sphinx continued to press and were no way overawed by there higher league opponents with Dion Barrett breaking up play in midfield and Pav Tomczak causing problems up front. Sphinx went in at half time one down but by no means out of the game.
The 2nd half Sphinx turned up the pressure and had the majority of possession with Dynamoe content to soak up the pressure and hit on the break. Again Sphinx had a goal disallowed for what reason no one in the ground knows. Tomczak turned his man on the edge of the area and fired in a low shot that the keeper parried into the path of Donaldson who some how screwed his shot wide from only 5 yards out and facing an empty net. Robbins was brought into the fray along with Rawlings who replaced Donaldson and Billic respectfully.
The Ref Shows Off His Dance Moves
Rawlings then made room for himself in the box but could only screw is shot wide. Overall Sphinx were happy with the performance and if they can iron out the little mistakes that put them on the back foot then an improvement on there league position from last season will be very much on the cards.
