Sphinx’s FA Competition draws for 2023/24

The Football Association has announced the draws for the opening rounds of the 2023/24 Emirates FA Cup and Isuzu FA Trophy.

Coventry Sphinx’s men’s first team will feature in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup and in First Round Qualifying of the FA Trophy, for which they became eligible after promotion last season.

The FA Cup draw takes Sphinx back to Stourport Swifts. against whom they played regularly at Step 5 as members of the Midland Football League Premier Division. The match will be played on the weekend of Saturday 5th August and the winning team will go on to face either Hereford Pegasus or Hanley Town in the Preliminary Round.

In the FA Trophy the Sphinx will be away to Quorn on the weekend of Saturday 9th September. Quorn are another familiar opponent from our days in the Midland Football League but one with whom we’ll renew acquaintances in the Pitching In Northern Premier League Midlands this season. Bedworth United or Leek Town will be the opposition for the winning side.

Micky Bell’s Sphinx youth team have also been drawn against Stourport Swifts in the FA Youth Cup. Their Preliminary Round tie will be played at the Sphinx Industrial Supplies Stadium in the week commencing 4th September.
