On Friday 27th March, the Under 14’s played in the Final of the Bedworth Nursing Cup versus Attleborough Hawks from Nuneaton. The final which was played at The Oval, was well supported by both clubs and a good final anticipated by all, as Attleborough were top of there league and Sphinx going well in the Coventry League.
With in minutes of the start the Sphinx got off to the best possible start and took the lead, Sphinx maintained the pressure and continued to play good football throughout the first half but did on a few occasions give away free kicks that were in dangerous areas but came to nothing. As the half went on Sphinx created more openings and went into the break with a further two goals going into the break 3-0 up.
The second half was very much about the great football Sphinx played and were dominant throughout, entertaining the crowd to some lovely passing play. This created more chances with every player playing there part, until a dubious penalty decision gave Attleborough a glimpse of hope of a comeback, but with Sphinx looking very composed, creating chances and playing good football they responded and scored a further 3 goals, defending the trophy in style and bring it home to Sphinx drive.
A thoroughly deserved win and played the Sphinx way and credit to the team they were fantastic again. Congratulations also goes to our centre forward Manny Hay who collected Man of the Match for the 2nd year running.
