Coventry Sphinx’s Captain was Ben Jones the line up was Reedy in Goal, Brandon and Cruise in defence, Ben J, Jack and Seamus midfield with Joe as striker subs were Matthew and Ben C.

Christ the King won the toss and chose to take kick off. The referee blew the whistle and the game was on. Christ the King passed it back to their centre midfield player who whacked it up the field but Cruise stopped it and skilled it around some strikers. Cruise passed to Seamus and on to Joe who tried to score but it deflected off their defender, which gave Sphinx a corner. Jack took the corner, kicking it high over their defender; Joe tried to header it but could not reach it. Seamus ran onto it to try to cross it in again but the Christ the King defender blocked it.

Several minutes passed with Sphinx on the attack but Christ the King defended well. A corner was given to Sphinx and Jack took it, he whipped it into the box but it was blocked by Christ the King defender who kicked it out. Brandon took a touch and shot at the goal and scored a fantastic first goal.

Half time score was 1-0 to Coventry Sphinx.

Second half, Matthew played defence and Ben C played right midfield replacing Cruise and Ben J. Sphinx took kick off, Joe passed back to Jack who whacked it up the field to Ben C to run on, he crossed the ball towards the goal with Seamus at the back and Joe in the middle but the keeper managed to jump and grab the ball. AT7 2 - 4 Coventry Sphinx

Reported by Seamus Horton

2007 Starts with a Victory!!

On the 7th of January Sphinx played AT7, the weather was wet and windy but we wanted to win another game.

The starting line up was Reed in goal; Cruise and Brandon were at the back, Jack in the centre, Ben on the right, Matthew on the left and Seamus as striker. Joe and Benj subs.

AT7 took kick-off and both teams set out to win the game, AT7 attacked a couple of times but Sphinx looked the stronger side. As the game continued Sphinx had a few chances with some good shots at goal and winning lots of corners. The first goal came from a goal kick by the AT7 keeper who kicked the ball out and Seamus won the ball and he shot from distance with the ball hitting the back of the net before the keeper could get back. 1-0 Sphinx.

AT7 started to play better football and started attacking, they managed to get a goal back when they shot and the wet ball skidded in off the wet surface.

1-1 at halftime.

Sphinx kicked off the second half with Joe on and Benj also on. Sphinx started the second half with Brandon and Cruise defending well together at the back. Joe picked up the ball on the left and dribbled past 2 players then toe poked the ball in to make it 2-1 to Sphinx.

Sphinx kept attacking and had several chances to extend their lead, Matty crossed the ball to Joe but the AT7 defence cleared. AT7 attacked again and scored to make it 2-2.

Sphinx had to keep attacking and they did with Jack playing well in the centre and with one attempt he did his skills and blasted the ball into the top right hand corner, 3-2 Sphinx. Reedy was quiet in goal and was tempted to play outfield. Ben came on for Matthew and Seamus for Jack. Sphinx kept attacking with lots of corners. The pressure worked as Benj managed to seal the win with another goal to end the match 4-2 to Sphinx!!!

Jack was awarded Man of the Match and Benj captain.

The team were pleased with another win and want to win their next game and go unbeaten all season.

Coventry Sphinx  8-0  Whitley Juniors

Report by Brandon Carter

SPHINX - REMAIN UNDEFEATED

WHAT a great game on the 17th of December, we played Whitley Juniors FC.

We beat them 8-0. The first goal came from Matthew going past one player and shooting, luckily it slipped through the keeper's arms. The second goal came from Joe going past about three people and toe-poking the ball into the net. The third goal Ben passed to Joe and Joe smacked it and it went in. The last goal in the first half came from Ben Jones hitting it in on the rebound the keeper just touched it but he couldn't hold it. In the second half we began 4-0 up, then Seamus slotted one past the keeper. Then Seamus got another goal that Jack fed to him and he shot and it went in. Ben Jones got another by passing it into the net. Then Seamus got another for his hat trick.

It was the end of the game we were so happy of our win! In the first half we were passing the ball brilliantly but in the second half everybody wanted to score including Reedy coming up for one or two corners.

Well done lads, another great performance.
